Trouble Sending Emails in Outlook?

We get a lot of inquiries from our Smarter Mail clients using Outlook who suddenly have trouble sending emails, but do not have problems receiving them. While there are obviously a number of issues that can cause this, by far the most common is the blocking of Port 25 by a client's ISP (Internet Service Provider). Comcast and Verizon are among those known to do this.

Below are some simple instructions to change to the alternate port 587 or as always you can contact our Help Desk for assistance. All new requests can be emailed to helpdesk@ag-is.com or at submitted at www.ag-is.com/contact/support. You can also reach us at 717-285-7105 x247.

Instructions

It is not uncommon for your ISP to change ports especially if you were using Port 25.

Mail server, incoming or outgoing = mail.ag-is.com

*** Optional - If you wish you may check if your Outlook settings are correct. ***

Outlook 2007

Outlook 2010 Add Accounts

Outlook 2010 Edit or Modify Accounts

*** Optional - If you wish you may check your Port. ***

To determine if the port is a reason you are having issues sending mail, you can attempt to connect to the SMTP port currently set in your email client to your mail server:

You may reference: http://www.hosting.com/support/email/telnet

If you are unable to connect on port 25, you may also try alternate port 587.
